Good Sport – Pushover

Taken from ‘And Now We Are Talking’ EP
Free download via Bandcamp here

Stan says: #Monday. This track from the new EP by Pittsburgh electronic outfit Good Sport aka Ryan Hizer (ex Librarian) is working well in Stan Central this morning and has the right combination of Jim Reid-y vocals and electro poppings to keep the creative part of our brain engaged before the next cup of caffeine is consumed. This is our favourite track of the bunch, but it’s worth checking out the full (free to download) EP via the link above.

Waters – For The One

September 16, 2011 § Leave a comment

Taken from the album ‘Out In The Light’
Released 27/09/11 on Arts & Crafts/ City Slang
Preview the album via City Slang soundcloud here

Stan says: #Friday. The ex Port O’Brien mainman released this free download to the world a couple of months ago and it’s now the opening track on this forthcoming debut full length as Waters. The nautical themes may remain, but while the music of his old outfit often sounded like part of the recovery process after a hard day at sea, this sounds more like a rallying cry to fire up the men before the Kraken strikes.

I Break Horses – Winter Beats

Take from ‘Hearts’ by I Break Horses
Out now on Bella Union

Stan says: #Friday. Rapidly coming to the conclusion that few things help us forget a hangover better than five minutes of expertly crafted Scandinavian nugaze. I Break Horses may not be breaking any moulds here but that doesn’t stop this from being one of the best album openers we’ve heard all year. TURN IT UP.

Theme Park – Wax (Halls Remix)

Stan says: #Wednesday. Enjoying this remix of the B-Side to forthcoming single ‘A Mountain We Love’ this morning. Made us want to dust off our copy of ‘Uh Oh’ by David Byrne. Soon to play live at one of our favourite North London venues The Lexington on the 31 August as well. More info on Theme Park here

Cass McCombs – The Same Thing

August 22, 2011 § Leave a comment

Taken from ‘Humor Risk’ by Cass McCombs
Released 7/11/11 on Domino Records

Stan says: #Monday. Cass McCombs is not always the recommended treatment for a stag hangover, especially if teetering on the edge of something mildly existential. This however is almost (almost), upbeat in a House of Love kind of way and McCombs’ vocal has a definite Sumner-ish/Mancunian quality to it at points. Interesting.
