Julia Holter – In the Same Room
February 8th, 2012 § Leave a Comment
Taken from the album ‘Ekstasis’.
Released 8/3/2012 on RVNG Intl (Shop)
Stan says: #StillOnlyWednesday. A soothing slab of mesmeric beauty and one of our favourite tunes heard so far from Holter’s forthcoming sophomore album.
François & The Atlas Mountains – Gold Mountain
February 6th, 2012 § Leave a Comment
Stan says: #Monday. One of the things we have liked most about François has been the continued prominence of his native tongue in the lyrical mix. JS and PC in particular will attest to the strength of feeling that has sometimes been displayed on this subject. But while we think this was an exceedingly good decision, it’s hard to dispute the restorative powers of this (English only) Slow Club cover. Especially as the thaw sets in on a wet Monday morning.
Die Jungen – I Pray To You

Taken from the album ‘At Breath’s End’
Out 27 February 2012 on Lebenstrasse Records (Shop)
Stan says: #Friday. A gorgeous slice of 50′s pop gold courtesy of Klaus Von Barrel’s side project Die Jungen.
Coves – Honeybee

Stan says: #Wednesday. Our favourite track from the Coves EP that AES tipped us off to recently. Listen to the full ep on bandcamp here.

Mercury Rev + Porcelain Raft
January 23rd, 2012 § Leave a Comment
‘Deserter Songs’ out now on V2
‘Strange Weekend’ out now on Secretly Canadian (Shop)
Stan says: #Monday. Is today the most depressing day of the year or was that last week? The reports seem to be conflicting as far as we can tell. One thing we do know is that ‘Opus 40′ continues to generate a lump in the throat for us even after an uncountable number of listens and today it seems especially perfect – regardless of occasion. Decided to throw in a bit of Charlie Chaplin (as soundtracked by Porcelain Raft) for good measure.
Omma Cobba – Wasted On A Bench
January 20th, 2012 § Leave a Comment
Stan says: #Friday. Wasted on a beach? Possibly. Wasted on a bench? Not so sure. Unless it’s some sort of super deluxe cushioned three seater affair located somewhere in the tropics with a gentle warm breeze and an unlimited supply of umbongo to hand. This is still good though. (Bandcamp)
Perfume Genius – All Waters
January 18th, 2012 § Leave a Comment
Stan says: #Wednesday. Nothing like a bit of heavy synth padding to smooth out those mid week glitches.
Minor Sounds – The Humming
January 16th, 2012 § Leave a Comment
Stan says: #Monday. Stumbled across this on the Fat Cat demo player last week. Slight but beautiful and free to download.
The Roots – Make My

Mint Julep – Days Gone By (Helios Remix)
January 11th, 2012 § Leave a Comment
Original version taken from the album ‘Save your Season’
Out now on Village Green
Stan says: #Wednesday. We’re hoping that Helios cut Mint Julep a good deal when it came to reworking this track. We still think it’s better than the original though, so either way … he should think about hiring himself for remix work more often.
Sandro Perri – Changes
January 9th, 2012 § Leave a Comment
Taken from the album ‘Impossible Spaces’
Out now on Constellation (Shop)
Stan says: #Monday. A track that somehow passed us by in 2011 but may be even more fitting for consumption at the outset of a brave new year (or that’s what we are telling ourselves). Thanks to TC for the belated heads up. We will not let this happen again in 2012. Honest.
Band Of Skulls – Bruises
January 6th, 2012 § Leave a Comment
Taken from the album ‘Sweet Sour’
Released on Vagrant/Electric Blues/PIAS 20/2/2012
Stan says: #Friday. Is it strange that we are almost continually surprised by the fact that Band Of Skulls are from Southampton? Either way ‘Bruises’ is an ideal cobweb unsettler and our favourite Band Of Skulls tune so far by an urban mile.
