Neneh Cherry & The Thing – Dream Baby Dream

June 6, 2012 § 2 Comments

#Wednesday. This track is as good an indication as any of how we feel about the last four days on British shores. Unclear if it’s all been a nightmarish echo from a parallel world that no longer exists (or should exist) … or just, in fact, a LOT of very ridiculous fun featuring the unimpeachable triumvirate that is burnt sausages, sponge cake and best bitter. We seem to be hedging towards the latter but it’s still more than a little hard to call it right now.

#Friday. What are the odds of this finding its way onto Queenie’s private playlist when she goes for her Thames barge ride on Sunday? Possibly not quite the kind of jubilation she’ll be looking for. It’ll do for her less refined subjects like us though.

#Wednesday. We all know the game these days. It’s basically the same one that Prefab Sprout’s label developed circa 1984/85 with their dogged determination to turn When Love Breaks Down into a hit. It’s only on the 4th outing and the 3rd anniversary of the original recording date that a track is finally deemed to have had an ‘official’ release. Meaning the single release of this on June 11th probably won’t even count. It should do. We (still) think it’s great.

#Fronday? We were busy pushing our way in to Brixton Academy before we remembered that we had not hit the go button on our Friday post as intended. But we think this track works just as well for the start of a week as it does for the end of one (musical fudge then). And we like the photo too. Is that Gallagher Snr guesting at the end though? #Friday. We’re recommencing our anti-rain-at-the-weekend-dance at GPS HQ today. Based on some extremely complex calculations, (that lack of available hosting space prevents us from going into right now), our actuarial department has deemed it to be worth another very tenuous shot. So download ‘Fly Away’ for free courtesy of Ja Ja Ja and start dancing. If it decides to work this time we’ll invite you all over for some last minute alfresco dining Dalston style.

#Wednesday. If you have not heard this track already then listen to it now. And if you don’t think, like us, that this is one of the most beautiful songs you have heard all year then a musical excommunication may have to be next up in the order of service. Yes we know that’s harsh and goes against most of our previously stated views re everybody liking whatever music they happen to like and blah blah blah, but that’s just the way we feel right now. Found amidst the clutter thanks to yvynyl.

#Monday. A great cover of a track by The Network and not a bad way to help smooth the re-acclimatisation process for those of us who have been lucky enough to be out of the rain for most of the last two weeks and are now jonesing for that thing we call the sun.
